As a wedding planner, I absolutely love when my brides come with a clear vision for their wedding day. I am finding that now more brides are “pinning” all of their wedding ooh’s and ah’s through their private “Pinterest” wedding board. I love the fact that Pinterest is a readily available tool for brides to get wedding inspiration and to decide on a wedding style that suits her personality. Now, I AM one who is addicted to Pinterest because it is like receiving a brand new magazine in the mail for FREE! I get so inspired with the colorful images, creative photography shots, and ideas galore. Now initially, I was like everyone other female who thought Pinterest was the greatest invention ever…and I possibly still do because the concept is brilliant. However, in the realm of wedding planning I have had a few epiphanies…
When I sit and scroll through my I pad diving into the glorious pictures full of wedding details, amazing gowns, and personal touches, the one thing I realize is that none of it looks very special after a while. My Pinterest feed looks a lot like the millions of other women in the United States because we are all spending hours scouring the same source. With that said, how are we creating a wedding that is unique and special? Instead of letting Pinterest drive our desires, we should seek more of our wedding inspiration from our own relationships, experiences, and traditions.
Now I still have my bride’s share with me their personal Pinterest boards, but it is with the idea that we will find a few common themes and traditional ideas and mix in the right amount of personal detail to create a wedding that is unique but not cliché.
DISCLAIMER: This blog post is not intended to get brides to stop using Pinterest during their wedding planning process, but my hope is that you will become a more conscious “pinner!”
